About the Espresso Drinks set: Includes four stamps picturing digital illustrations of a caffe latte, espresso, caffe mocha, and cappuccino. The names of each drink are included below the cups in arti-deco-style font. Original artwork by Terry Allen. These stamps were issued just in time for Starbucks’ 50th anniversary and celebrate America’s love of coffee.
History the stamp represents: Many people who enjoy a good, strong shot of espresso are also fans of chocolate. (The flavors are somewhat similar.) And there is a popular coffee drink that brings together the best of both worlds – the caffè mocha.
A caffè mocha is not too different from a caffè latte in that both contain a shot of espresso, steamed milk, and a silky smooth foam. However, a caffè mocha differs with the addition of chocolate. This may be in the form of cocoa powder and sugar or chocolate syrup. The different ratios of these ingredients affect the taste of the drink. If there is more sugar, the caffè mocha will taste more like milk chocolate. If there is more cocoa powder, it will taste like dark chocolate. Some specialty coffee shops may also sell a white chocolate version of the beverage.
The taste of a caffè mocha is best described as a mixture of espresso and hot chocolate. In fact, some cafes make the drink by simply adding a scoop of packaged hot chocolate mix to the steamed milk. A caffè mocha is usually topped off with a sprinkle of cinnamon or cocoa powder. Marshmallows may be added as well.
The caffè mocha is a well-balanced drink. The espresso is not too overpowering and is a little sweeter than a caffè latte. It is perfect for new coffee drinkers.
