About the stamp designs:  Pictures a one of Bugs Bunny’s iconic personas – a Hollywood celebrity.  The artwork came directly from Warner Bros. animation artists who also created the sketches on the reverse side of the complete pane of 20 stamps.

First Day City:  The First Day of Issue Ceremony was held virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic with a First Day of Issue postmark from Burbank, California, home of Warner Bros.

About the Bugs Bunny set:  Includes 10 different stamp designs issued in honor of Bugs Bunny’s debut on screen in 1940.  Each design pictures a different on of Bugs’ famous personas:  a barber, basketball player, Hollywood celebrity, court jester, Brünhilde, mermaid, piano player, super-rabbit, baseball player, and soldier.  The set also honors Bugs’ place in popular culture and animation history.

History the stamp represents:  There are too many great Bugs Bunny cartoons to count.  That’s why, over the years, several compilations have been created to give audiences their fix of Looney Tunes cartoons all in one place.  One of the best was The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Movie, which was first released in 1979 and then re-released in 1986 and 1998.

The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Movie was unique because, in addition to the series of clips, it was narrated by Bugs Bunny.  These scenes introduce Bugs at his luxury home, complete with carrot juice waterfall and pool.  Bugs appears in a maroon smoking jacket and ascot and talks about the history of his cartoons.  He appears every bit the movie star relaxing at home, occasionally pulling a carrot from an ice bucket to chew on.

Bugs begins his narrative by walking along a wall of portraits he describes as his “several fathers.”  These are all the animators that helped develop the Bugs Bunny character over the years, including the famous Tex Avery and Chuck Jones.  Bugs also talks about the enemies he’s faced over the years, like Elmer Fudd and Yosemite Sam.

Whether Bugs is alone on screen or paired with rivals like Daffy Duck, this compilation of shorts proves that he steals the show no matter what part he plays.
