The designs were created in close collaboration with Disney Creative Director David Pacheco and the Walt Disney Studios Ink & Paint Department. They created new art especially for use on the stamps. According to the USPS, these stamps were created to celebrate “the rich legacy of the Walt Disney Studios Ink & Paint Department.”
History the stamp represents: In 1950, Cinderella became the second Disney princess movie ever released. The film introduced one of animation’s most memorable villains, Lady Tremaine. She menaces Cinderella day in and day out, inspiring the stereotype of the “evil stepmother.”
Lady Tremaine does not physically harm Cinderella, but verbally berates her and forces her to become a servant in her own home. Anastasia and Drizella, following their mother’s wicked example, treat Cinderella just as cruelly. Lady Tremaine does everything in her power to break Cinderella’s spirit and make sure she does not achieve her dreams. One of Lady Tremaine’s most vaillainous qualities is how she appears to give Cinderella hope but then almost immediately takes it away. She is only concerned with her own daughters’ futures, though she occasionally treats them harshly as well.
Many decades after the character was introduced, Lady Tremaine is still considered one of Disney’s most sinister villains. The fact that she does not have magic but still manages to ruin years of Cinderella’s life makes her extremely frightening. This, combined with a strong voice hardly ever raised in anger, made Lady Tremaine an imposing force few but Cinderella dared trifle with.
