Starting out as a local New York City broadcast, it quickly went nationwide and has been going strong for more than half a century. It was light musical comedy to start – when Steve stepped over to the piano, the audience was treated to some light banter or musical improvisation. Later hosts influenced the show with their unique personalities. But some things have lasted through the years, such as the opening monologues and decades of entertaining audiences.
