The Simpsons
Maggie

Issue Date: May 7, 2009
City: Los Angeles, CA

The television show’s creator Matt Groening modeled Maggie after his own sister, who often sucked on a pacifier and wore a sleeper suit as an infant.  Groening thought it would be funny to have a baby who didn’t talk or age, but still reacted to situations like an adult.

Maggie rarely appears without her pacifier, although she has been seen sucking on a seat belt, Christmas cookie, her Uncle’s nose, and even Bart’s severed finger.  But Maggie is best known for falling down.  As Maggie walks across the floor, she trips over her sleeper suit and falls on her face, only to get up and do it again and again.

One of the most watched episodes was when Elizabeth Taylor voiced Maggie’s first word.  Millions listened to hear Maggie speak the word “Daddy.”  Unfortunately, Maggie was in an empty bedroom at the time, so none of the other family members heard her speak.

The series is one of the most honored TV shows in America.  The show has won three People’s Choice Awards, two Kid’s Choice Awards, a Teen’s Choice Award, and an American Comedy Award.  An international success, the show has also won five Australian Kid’s Choice Awards, three British Comedy Awards, and a U.K. Kid’s Choice Award.
