Cadillac Eldorado
America on the Move Series
Issue Date: October 3, 2008
City: Carlisle, PA
Fifty years after introducing its first car in 1903, Cadillac continued to set the standard for luxury with the Eldorado.
Featuring a powerful V-8 engine, wraparound windshield, wire spoke wheels, and whitewall tires, Eldorado was Cadillac’s most extravagantly styled production car. Futuristic power windows, seats, brakes, and steering, along with a remote control trunk lock, made Cadillac a leader in the luxury car field. The Eldorado was available as a convertible or as a pillarless hardtop. Cadillac was also responsible for introducing that most flamboyant of all car designs, the tail fin. Soon, Cadillac tail fins were being copied by other car manufacturers. By 1959, the Cadillac Eldorado had the biggest, most impressive tail fins of any automobile, decked out with bullet taillights.
The Cadillac Eldorado was chosen by both Motor Trend and Life magazines to be featured in articles celebrating “100 Years of Automobiles.”
