10th Anniversary of September 11, 2001
This stamp sheet was issued to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the terror attacks of September 11, 2001.
Throughout the nation, events were held to honor those who lost their lives and those who survived.
A National September 11 Memorial now occupies the space in New York City where the Twin Towers used to stand. The names of nearly 3,000 victims are inscribed on bronze panels that surround the two reflecting pools.
The field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, which became the final resting place for the brave passengers of Flight 93, is now a memorial run by the National Park Service. Over one million people have come to pay their respects.
When Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon, 184 men and women lost their lives. On the 10th anniversary, President Barack Obama laid a wreath of flowers outside the restored building while a brass quintet played “Amazing Grace.”
