1996 32¢ Iowa Statehood
and 3¢ Iowa Centennial
Mystic First Day Cover
The first day ceremony for the 32¢ Iowa statehood stamp took place on August 1, 1996 in Dubuque, Iowa and commemorated the 150th anniversary of statehood. The 3¢ stamp was issued in 1946, the 100th anniversary of that historic event.
The subject of the 1996 stamp is a Grant Wood painting, “Young Corn.” Over 90% of the state’s land is devoted to farming. Iowa produces seven percent of our nation’s food supply.
U.S. #942 pictures the Iowa state flag with corn stalks on each side. It was issued to celebrate the centennial of Iowa’s admission as the 29th state in the Union.
