Reason the stamp was issued: The stamp issued to publicize the US Postal Service’s sponsorship of the 1992 Winter and Summer Olympic Games.
About the stamp design: The stylized bald eagle was the logo for the USPS at the time this stamp was issued. The Postal Service was able to display the five-colored interlocking rings, the symbol of the Olympic Games, as an official sponsor. The US Olympic Committee had specific guidelines concerning the relative size of the rings and the USPS logo. The stamp is commemorative size to accommodate the specifications.
First Day City: The stamp was dedicated as part of the opening ceremonies for the national Postal Forum, held in Orlando, Florida. This was a national conference for postal officials to meet with business mailers. Olympic gold medalist Bruce Jenner was the main speaker for the ceremony.
