Get Both 1875 Continental Bank Note Stamps –
150 Years Old!

This is your chance to own two stamps from the long-running Bank Note Series.  Due to the unpopularity of the 1869 Pictorial Series, the first Bank Note stamps were printed in 1870.  They’re referred to as the “Bank Notes” because over their 18-year print run, they were produced by three prominent bank note printing companies – National, Continental, and American, in that order.

The 2¢ Jackson (#178) was printed in vermilion.  It replaced a brown stamp of the same design issued in 1873 that was often confused with the 10¢ brown Jefferson.

The 5¢ Taylor (#179) marked our 12th president’s postal debut.  It was also the first 5¢ Bank Note stamp, issued for the new international rate to countries in the Universal Postal Union.
