Are You Missing These 1970s Contemporary Christmas Stamps?

For many years, the US Post Office received thousands of letters requesting Christmas-themed stamps to frank holiday mail.  Finally, in 1962, they issued America’s first Christmas stamp.  While some objected that this was a conflict of the separation of church and state, the stamp sold out quickly and proved immensely popular.

This marked the start of a new series of US Christmas stamps, issued virtually every year since 1962.  These stamps, part of the Contemporary Christmas Series, feature images and topics relating to our modern Christmas celebrations.

The 1970s stamps included in this set feature antique Christmas toys, Santa, a Partridge in a Pear Tree (from the popular “12 Days of Christmas” song), a needlepoint Christmas tree, winter scenes by Currier and Ives, a rural mailbox, and more.  The set also includes one of the first non-denominated US stamps, picturing an 1878 Christmas card.  It was issued without a denomination because the USPS was unsure about an upcoming rate change.

These whimsical stamps stir up the nostalgia of holidays past, and will make great additions to your collection.  Send for yours now.

Includes US #1415-18, 1445, 1472, 1508, 1551, 1580, 1702, 1703, 1730, 1769, and 1800.
