The George Washington stamps picture a bust of the President sculpted by famous artist Jean Antoine Houdon. While Thomas Jefferson was in France, he asked Houdon to travel to America to create a bust of the Revolutionary War hero. According to Jefferson, Houdon never had “a moment’s hesitation about the present voyage which he considers the brightest chapter of his history.”
