About the Autumn Colors set: Includes 10 different designs featuring photographs by nature and garden photographer Allen Rokach (1941-2021). Each photograph was taken at a different location across the United States, a perfect way to emphasize the nationwide beauty of autumn.
History the stamp represents: Changing foliage is not the only colorful part of autumn. There are also plenty of fall flowers that add a splash of color with their blooms. There are the famous chrysanthemums you can buy at many stores during the season to decorate your front porch. However, there are also a number of perennials you can plant and watch come up year after year.
Yellow wax bells are a little-known species that blooms bright yellow in fall. There are two varieties, with both growing in clumps up to four feet tall. Both varieties have maple-like leaves and yellow, lily-shaped flowers. One variety has flowers that hang down, while the other’s stand up straight. Yellow wax bells can grow in hardiness zones 4-8, meaning they can survive winters as cold as -30ºF.
Another species of autumn blooming flower is “True Blue” gentian. The plant grows to two feet tall and produces beautiful violet flowers that are more numerous year after year. They prefer full sun to partial shade and well-draining soil. Their hardiness zones are the same as yellow wax bells. New England aster is another great choice for fall blooms. They range in color from pink or white to blue or purple and are known to bloom through the first frost. These are just a few ways to ensure your autumn garden remains just as radiant as the changing foliage around it!
