About the Autumn Colors set: Includes 10 different designs featuring photographs by nature and garden photographer Allen Rokach (1941-2021). Each photograph was taken at a different location across the United States, a perfect way to emphasize the nationwide beauty of autumn.

History the stamp represents: When most Americans think of autumn colors, New England and other northern regions are the usual areas that come to mind. While these locations may have the most varied colors, the leaves change colors in southern states, too. In fact, autumn can be one of the best times of year to plan a visit to the South as temperatures are usually milder and more comfortable.

New Mexico is a great choice for an autumn adventure. It is home to Santa Fe National Forest, Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, and other scenic destinations. However, one of the best places to enjoy the wonders of fall in New Mexico is Albuquerque. In October, the city hosts the International Balloon Fiesta, an event where over 500 hot air balloons take to the skies over Albuquerque. They are not traditionally what people think of when they hear autumn colors, but the rainbow of hot air balloons provides its own kind of spectacle that draws nearly one million visitors every year.

For traditional leaf peepers, New Mexico’s cottonwood trees put on a brilliant show each autumn. Their golden leaves stand out against the rocky landscape. It creates a scene that keeps visitors coming back year after year.
