About the Dungeons & Dragons set: 10 Forever stamps issued for the 50th anniversary of Dungeons & Dragons. They picture 10 different designs showcasing characters, creatures, and encounters from Dungeons & Dragons. The selvage of the pane of 20 pictures a party of adventurers fighting a dragon, a gold 20-sided die (d20), and an example of a Dungeons & Dragons map.

History the stamp represents: In the world of Dungeons & Dragons, some of the most hair-raising creatures adventurers come across are the undead. While some are low-level and easier to deal with (such as skeletons), others are extremely challenging. One of the most terrifying is the death knight.

Death knights are strong undead warriors created by evil forces or gods. They have similar appearances to when they were alive, but with the decaying body of a corpse. Perhaps more frightening are their eyes – two glowing points of light in hollow sockets. Death knights are often the generals of the undead, commanding armies of lower-level creatures such as zombies or skeletons. They commonly ride into battle aboard nightmares (vicious undead horses with black coats and huge sharp fangs).

Only the highest-level adventurer should tangle with a death knight. They are naturally resistant to necrotic and poison damage and, when riding a nightmare, may also be resistant to fire. In addition, one of their most powerful attacks is hellfire orb. When launched at an enemy, it can deal up to 120 points of damage in a single blow. That’s enough o drop most creatures’ health to zero and send their allies running. Such an encounter makes for a truly horrific cautionary tale… if one survives to tell it.
