About the Dungeons & Dragons set: 10 Forever stamps issued for the 50th anniversary of Dungeons & Dragons. They picture 10 different designs showcasing characters, creatures, and encounters from Dungeons & Dragons. The selvage of the pane of 20 pictures a party of adventurers fighting a dragon, a gold 20-sided die (d20), and an example of a Dungeons & Dragons map.
History the stamp represents: You can’t mention Dungeons & Dragons without bringing up the creature the game is named after. Dragons are one of the most powerful creatures in the game and play a wide variety of roles depending on the campaign setting. They may be enemies or allies (best hope for the latter), and often have personalities as large as their physical stature.
In 2021, a reference book called Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons was released, revealing even more about the habits and history of dragons. It went into detail about dragons’ ties to magic and what happens when one dies or is killed. Some dragons choose a successor before they die, leaving some or all of their magical power to this creature. However, sometimes dragonslayers seek to take this power for themselves. They may kill or injure the dragon in order to collect its blood. A ritual can then be performed in which the individual bathes in the blood in hopes of becoming a half dragon (although this ritual does not always work out in their favor).
With abilities like magically improved sight and resistance to physical attacks, it’s no wonder dragons are so widely admired by characters in the Dungeons & Dragons world.
