About the stamp design: Pictures an illustration from Wizards and Spells: A Young Adventurer’s Guide (2020) of a person lost in a maze.

First Day City: The First Day of Issue Ceremony took place at Lucas Oil Stadium during Gen Con Indy 2024, a gaming convention in Indianapolis, Indiana.

About the Dungeons & Dragons set: 10 Forever stamps issued for the 50th anniversary of Dungeons & Dragons. They picture 10 different designs showcasing characters, creatures, and encounters from Dungeons & Dragons. The selvage of the pane of 20 pictures a party of adventurers fighting a dragon, a gold 20-sided die (d20), and an example of a Dungeons & Dragons map.

History the stamp represents: When it comes to the “dungeons” part of Dungeons & Dragons, an adventuring party never knows what situations they might find themselves in. Perhaps one of the most famous is the labyrinth-style dungeon. These massive and intricate mazes are often home to valuable treasures, but you can only get to the good stuff if you can survive the terrifying monsters and hidden traps lying in wait.

One of the most well-known maze-dwelling creatures is the deadly minotaur. It is a large humanoid with the head of a bull, upper body of a human, and hooved feet. It is known for its bone-chilling battle cry and ability to recall every path of its labyrinthine home. Minotaurs are extremely strong with males reaching heights up to nine feet while females are slightly smaller at seven feet. Both sexes have sharp horns measuring up to three feet in length. Unlike true bulls, minotaurs have sharp, carnivore-like teeth and a taste for flesh.

If your adventuring party is unlucky enough to find themselves in a labyrinth dungeon, keep a sharp eye out. The last thing you want is to be snuck up on by a hungry minotaur. Should you encounter one, be sure to avoid the “maze” spell (banishes a creature to a labyrinth-like plane) as minotaurs can automatically escape. You might be better off banishing your companions to avoid battling the minotaur instead!
