Senator

Born and educated in Georgia, Walter F. George became a lawyer and then a state judge. From 1922 to 1957, he served as a U.S. senator for Georgia. He achieved much during his long career as a senator. George served on many important committees, including serving as chairman of the Committee on Privileges and Elections.

Additionally, George was selected president pro tempore – the senator who presides over the U.S. Senate in the absence of the vice president. George also served as President Dwight Eisenhower’s special ambassador to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, or NATO.
